Back to childhood memories...

Went back recently to visit my old primary/secondary school site at Mt. Sophia with some schoolmates. It was a heart-warming expereince to see the old but familiar buildings, some of which had been transformed into little offices or art enclaves. As I studied overseas for the first three years of my primary school, I only joined the school in Primary 4 till Secondary 4. However, we moved to the new campus at Blackmore Drive when we were in Secondary 2.

I have more fond memories of the old campus then the new one. I remember playing with the little stray  kittens that would come into the school and snuggle on our laps to snooze. Climbing up the steps two or three at a time and challenging one another to jump down from more steps before the landing was some fun stuff we used to do. Not forgetting the wet tissue wads that we would soak with water and fling onto the ceiling. Toilet breaks were sometimes splashing water at one another and going back to class with a wet pinafore was quite a sight! The canteen sold lots of nice food and I can never forget the stall that sold 'pork chops' which were actually bits of fried skin that was salted and they would sell it in little plastic bags. Potato skins were also fried and salted and they were so delicious when eaten hot! I still remember they had the chocolate ice-cream that came with two sticks so you could share with a friend! So many happy memories were spent there.

This was the place I made many good friends too and these friendships I hold dear and treasure deeply. Funny thing is that I never sang the school song during assembly as I was simply too lazy and would just mouth the words. It's only now after I left that I feel that sense of pride in the school song! Ironic!

I hope to pass these precious times and this wonderful culture of MGS to my girls when they attend school next time. They will be the 4th generation in my family as my grandma, my mom and myself were all from there. I hope that their expereince will be an enriching one where they will forge many happy memories, enjoy learning and build lasting friendships! And most importantly, learn to be Godly women!
